She wondered if they could see the gaping hole in her chest, where her heart used to be, as she walked silently along the busy streets.
Her world had stopped, but the rest of the world didn’t. It carried on with it’s daily bustle, the sounds, the flurry of movement. The world moved on while hers stood still and threatened to crash.
She held her throbbing heart in her hands and peered intently. It was bruised but carried on beating, because that was all it was capable of doing now. Her heart could not feel and could not be touched. All it could do was beat.
Tears welled up in her eyes, for the umpteenth time, as she stared hard at the throbbing mass in her hands. All the pain filled her body, threatening to burst outward. Her vision was blurred, a dull ache where her heart used to be. That gaping hole mocked her – no one could see.
Holding her battered heart up to her face, she finally whispered,
“Please don’t try so hard to say Goodbye.”
Sigh.
